Accessory Cervical Views Flashcards
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory View: Purpose
To assess for hypermobility and hypomobility of C1-C7/T1 upon flexion and extension
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory View: Contraindications
Should NOT be performed if:
1. The patient has neurological symptoms upon flexion
OR
2. Patients ADI space is increased on the neutral lateral cervical view
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory View: Patient Measurement
Laterally at approximately C4 or at the level of thyroid cartilage
Cervical-Flexion/Extension Accessory: Source to Image Distance
72”
Cervical Flexion/Extension Accessory: Tube Tilt
None
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory: Image Receptor Size
10” x 12” in portrait orientation
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory: Central Ray Position
Approximately at C4 or level of thyroid cartilage
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory: Collimation
To the image receptor size (10” x 12”), ensuring the eyes are not within the collimation field
Cervical Flexion/Extension-Accessory: Marker Placement
Usually posterior to the neck
Cervical Flexion & Extension-Accessory: Breathing Instructions
Suspended full exhalation and depression of the shoulders (“Breathe all the way out and drop your shoulders toward the floor”)
-Patient may hold weights to assist in depressing the shoulders
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Purpose
Reduce radiation dose to the thyroid gland and provide less magnification of the IVFs
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Patient Measurement
Laterally, approximately at C4 level
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Source to Image Distance
69”
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Tube Tilt
15 degrees caudal
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Image Receptor Size
10” x 12”, in portrait orientation
Anterior/Posterior Cervical Obliques: Patient Positioning
Patients stands 45 degrees to the image receptor with one shoulder touching the image receptor holder and the head slightly rotated to the shoulder furthest from the grid w/ mouth closed
