A

Q

how is rhythm shown - time

A

Even rhythm; this is shown at the start of the dance when the dancer, next to the person in a triangular pose, does two switching side lunges touching his knees. This even rhythm is shown as short, short, short, short and represents that he may be frustrated. Uneven rhythm; shown near the end when two dancers chase each other on the loud tapping music where they do two switching hand movements going short, short, long. This represents that they are travelling somewhere in that direction.

Q

how is duration shown - time

A

Long duration; evident after the fast section with the two male dancers near the start of the dance when one dancer goes into a backbend whilst the other holds his leg. This could show that he is preparing for something or for an attack. Short duration; shown near the end of the dance with the rolling music, where two dancers go to a petit retire and throw their arm above their head. This short movement represents that one person could be throwing something at the other in anger and runs from fear of retaliation.

Q

how is speed shown - time

A

Fast speed; shown during fast paced music near the end of the dance when the two male dancers, after seeing the female dancers, do rapid jumps, runs and hand movements. This represents they are fighting and competing against each other for the women. Slow speed; this is represented when two dancers lift up another dancer after the swinging section, as she does a walking movement with her legs. The slow movement could show that the male dancers are trying to help the other dancer by holding her up and helping her.

Q

how is level shown - space

A

Level is shown through three dancers one the stage, one of them is in a second plie and the other two are standing beside him. Low level is represented through the middle person as he is squatting and looks inferior to the other two dancers. This could highlight that he is the prey in the group of people. High level is shown through the other two dancers as they are standing above the other dancer. This could show that they are the predators, trying to attack the lower being.

Q

how is locomotion shown - space

A

Locomotion is shown in the middle of the dance after two female dancers do a phrase, a male dancer comes and does a travelling step sliding with one foot along the ground and the other trailing behind him away from the female. This could possibly show that he is looking for this person who could be prey or a mate. Locomotion is also shown after the three female phrases when all the front dancers do a gallop and step flicking their leg behind and then the male jumps smaller behind them whilst looking towards op after two jumps. This could be used to show how animals travel in packs and that the males are looking after the females.

Q

how is dimension - space

A

Large dimension; used at the very end of the dance when three dancers come on and enclose one dancer by bending their upper body with hands above their head. This use of forward, open dimension allows the idea of enclosure on the person in the middle like he is being attacked. Small dimension; shown in the phrase with three male dancers, one is on his knees and hands while the others are above him connecting hands. The use of small dimension through the person on their knees conveys the idea that he is the prey in the situation and he is also being attacked by the other animals.

Q

how is a swinging quality of movement shown - energy

A

Swinging is shown after the two male dancers get dragged under the curtain, when all dancers come on sequentially and swing their torso back and forth whilst looking at each other. This could show the animalistic spotting of a different pack or group of animals. Another example of singing is when two dancers lift another dancer and she swings her leg side to side. This swinging in the legs could represent the idea of decision and choosing possibly between two different people.

Q

how is flow shown - energy

A

bound flow; this is shown near the end of the dance when two dancers, after doing a body roll back to back, take a step out and pivot and do that on the other side. This bound flow could represent that they are looking for something as they stopped to look outward. Fluent flow; shown in the movement beforehand when the dancers do the body roll on each others back. This fluent movement could represent how they are trusting each other and the connection between them

Q

how is force shown - energy

A

Strong force; Used near the end of the dance when two male dancers, after seeing two female dancers, do repeated jumps to the back whilst circling fists towards each other rapidly. This strong force in the arms shows the competition for the women like animals do when they mate. Light force; When three dancers, after the swinging section, hold onto each other’s ankles and bend forward bringing feet to the floor. This light force shows the trusting connection between these three people and the trust they have with one another.

Q

how is contrast shown - GS

A

Contrast in shape is shown after the swinging section when two dancers hold another dancer up in a curled shape. The lifter dancers battement their legs front then back in a linear shape. This contrast in shape shows that the person being lifted could be scared as they are in a foiled position and the two lifters are strong, helping or protecting her. Contrast in level is shown at the beginning of the dance when one person is in a triangular shape bending forward and the other standing up moving. This could mean that the person standing up is superior as the movements shown look demanding and forceful.

Q

how is canon shown - GS

A

Canon is shown close to the start of the dance after the second male solo, when another dancer comes on stage and they do two jumps in an upper body curve with their arms curved and legs separated. This could show how they are communicating with each other like animals hunting on a field. Another example of canon is a bit after that phrase when three female dancers are on stage and they go to reach out to prompt in a forward lunge. This continuation of the movement through each dancer could show how they are the communication between each person

Q

how is symmetrical structure shown - GS

A

Symmetry is shown at the start of the dance when two dancers do a jump in an angular body shape, pushing their arms forward. This shows symmetry through how they do the movement toward each other. This could show how they are working together or that they are trying to impress one another. Another example of symmetry is shown after the three male phrase when the middle dancer pushes the two dancers to the ground when he is in centre stage. This could show symmetry in the space and shows how he defeated the predators as one animal.
