describe phrase two
The phrase is danced as a solo by one of the dancers and is clause to the middle of the dance with the fast paced music after the singing in silence. The phrase happens from 6:54 - 7:13 on the video
write out phrase two
- Fondus on downstage leg and drag your other leg behind you with that same arm following in the same movement (still facing stage right)
- Continue from that movement by slowly running to the USP and end facing stage right in a lunge with downstage arm across your forehead and the other beside you
- Cut out of the position and circle your arm that is across your forehead over your head and bring the other arm through the front
- Take two steps out and turn on your left leg towards stage left with your leg out in front of you and your foot flexed. Your arms come into your body like a hug
- Step out of turn to go into a plie with your body over your legs and your arms in beside you and then quickly lift your skirt and continue turning bringing your right leg up in a grand rond de jambe movement
- Land in a side lunge bringing your arms (with skirt in hand) over to your stage right side
- Do two side steps throwing your skirt from side to side on both steps
- Turn on third side step to face the front again
- Take three steps forward and move your arms, hands closed together, from side to side next to your head
- En Dedans turn in parallel with hands folded into your body
- Step out of turn and go into another en dedans turn with the other leg bringing your left arm to hold your skirt on your knee and your other arm to roll in to go through the gap between your arm and your knee
- Run towards the group
how does phrase two show gesture
Gesture is shown when the dancer takes three steps forward and moves her hands from side to side across her head. This could represent the fight between returning to the community or to leave her work.
how does phrase two show elevation
Elevation is used when the dancer does the second turn down the diagonal rising from a small plie position. This could highlight the connection the workers on the field have with the earth or the land.
how does phrase two show falling
Falling is shown when the dancer does the first turn and steps out of it into a small plie position with her arms beside her and her body over her legs. This fall could show the struggle she is going through whilst working on the land and how it affects her.
how does phrase two show travelling
Travelling is used when the dancer does two side steps throwing the skirt from side to side on both steps. This fast travel could represent the work that she is doing or again the struggle she is going through whilst working. This could also highlight that she is trying to get away from the other workers or the work because she is moving away from the other group as she wants to try and leave but the sense of community with the workers makes it hard for her to do
how does phrase two show turning
Turning is shown at the end of the phrase when the dancer does an en dedans turn in parallel with hands folded into your body and steps out of that turn and goes into another en dedans turn. This repetition of turning could represent the feeling or force of trying to get back to the group but also fighting that idea of leaving the group as well, struggling with the sense of community and the sense of freedom from the work.
how does phrase two show stillness
stillness is used at the very end of the phrase after the dance runs back to the group, she stops before continuing to dance. This could show the break between phrases or to show that since she was almost hesitation to get back to the group but eventually does, shows the string connection and community the Catalonian people have created.
how does phase two use coordination
Coordination is used in this phrase when the dancer does the two side steps throwing her skirt from side to side on each step. This coordination is used to show off the fast movements her feet are making whilst using the arms with a fast movement as well. This movement could be used to show separation between the dancer and another group of dancers.
how does phrase two use stamina
Stamina is used throughout the phrase to make sure the dancer is not tired from the movements which will contrast from slow to fast. This helps so that the dancer can still perform the smooth turns, correct alignment and height in rond de jambe to a high standard without fatiguing
how does phrase two use conrol
Control is also used in the whole of this phrase as the movements include longer lasting turns and fast steps. Control helps the dancer get to a from other movements and to maintain power in all of her movements.
