Stalling & Spinning Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the SSR

A

Carry out SSR if AoA warner or buffet on Final

Simultaneously:

  1. Unload to remove the stall
  2. Apply full power
  3. Roll wings level

Then:

  1. Select Airbrake in
  2. Climb using max 10 AoA to 5◦NU (strip gauge is primary for stalling)
  3. Clean up.

Q

Describe the fully developed CF stall

A

190 KIAS - 10,000ft datum - 7,000ft base

HASLLT, L/O, select CF Select Idle and trim to maintain nose up

Carry out SSR above 7000ft AGL/AMSL

Height loss will be around 900ft.

Q

Describe the flapless stall

A

(190 KIAS - 7,000ft datum - 5,000ft base)

HASLLT Approach Cx (Gear Only)

ToD 190kts - Begin 2.5◦approach

Set 70% RPM and note reduction in speed to threshold speed (VTH)

Simulate carrying out abrupt overshoot, 10.5 AoA warner will sound, increasing at 14 AoA SSR at buffet onset

Describe the App Config stall

A

(190 KIAS - 6,000ft datum - 5,000ft base)

HASLLT Accel Markers on Horizon - 80% RPM Approach Checks (Gear + Half Flap)

Simulate forgetting to increase power for drag, ignore accel markers

Q

Describe the spinning height criteria

A
  • Max Entry Height - 30,000ft RPS
  • IOT spin, cloud tops cannot be above 15,000ft
  • Min Entry Height - 25,000ft RPS (MEH must be 15,000ft above cloud tops)
  • MEH only affected if cloud tops above 10,000ft
  • Min Height Commence Recovery - 15,000ft MSD
  • Min Abandon Height - 5,000ft MSD

Q

Describe the SHIFTAS

A
  • Speed - 165 KCAS / 10 AoA (whichever first)
  • Height - 25-30,0000ft RPS
  • Idle
  • Fuel - CL Tank Empty
  • T6 - Low and stable
  • Ailerons - Neutral
  • Spin direction - Same as lookout turn

Q

Describe the spin recovery criteria

A

Recovery should be initiated if any of SHET2 occur:

  • Speed - <100 or >200 KIAS
  • Height - < 15,000 ft MSD
  • Excessive Side forces
  • T6 - Significant rise
  • 2 Turns

On entry, and after every turn call height (Height) - speed 100-200 (Height) - T6 stable, no excessive side forces (Height) - Idle, centralise

Q

Describe the spin recovery

A
  1. Check Height above MHCR (15,000ft)
  2. Throttle Idle (whilst smoothly centralising)

When the spin stops:

  1. CF Out
  2. 100 KIAS, wings level
  3. 150 KIAS, pull to light buffet to level (3.5G)
  4. Check engine for surge (check CWP and open throttle to full)
  5. Check instruments and orientate yourself
