2: Escape System Faults A05
During crew in you identify a fault with the ejection seat, what actions should you ensure are carried out?
Can you take the aircraft flying?
A05 - FOB 2130 - Safety Equipment, Survival Drills and Training
- Any ejection seat or escape system issues during the crew-in should be referred to an armourer and photographs should be taken.
- Yes, but crews should not take the aircraft without armourer consultation and assurance that the aircraft is serviceable.
3: Inverted Flight Checks A10
You have been tasked to conduct an inverted flight check as part of loose article checks. This is being conducted during a syllabus CV event.
What restrictions apply?
A10 - FOB 2301 - Flying Requirements Post Maintenance
- The authorization sheets should be appropriately annotated.
- The minimum altitude for an inverted flight check is 5000 ft AGL/AMSL.
- The instructional portion of the sortie may continue only if the nominated loose article is recovered.
4: Hot Brakes A45
You conduct a high-speed abort. You suspect you may have hot brakes, what procedure should be followed?

- If hot brakes are suspected, aircrew should contact their company frequency to receive guidance on where to park.
- Hot Brakes parking slots should be detailed within Sqn Orders/SOPs.
- The aircraft should be chocked in-situ with the parking brake off.
5: Circuit Restrictions A14
You are conducting a visual recovery at the end of a solo singleton sortie. You plan on conducting a VRIAB and on reporting Initial you are informed that there are 3 aircraft in the circuit. How does this affect you?

- XXV (F) and 72 Sqn trainees should only carry out a VRIAB when there are a maximum of 2 other aircraft in the circuit - Fly a normal join or straight-in approach.
- IV (AC) Sqn trainees can conduct the VRIAB ensuring that all traffic is visually acquired, and the break should be started no earlier than 1/3 of the way down the rwy.
6: Royal Flight Avoidance A14
You have planned a low level nav route the evening before your sortie. On the morning of your sortie, the ops brief shows a Royal Flight (helicopter) planned which conflicts with your route.
As a solo student, what avoidance should you provide against the Royal Flight during your re-plan?

Remain at least 10 nm laterally from the Royal helicopter’s intended track and at least 3000 ft above its maximum planned cruise altitude.
7: Icing Reporting A16
You are transiting to the IOM training areas at FL70 and identify ice build-up on the leading edges. You clear the icing conditions.
Who should you report this to and when?
What information should you report?

You should report the following:
- Type of icing and severity
- Position
- Height band where icing occurred.

Texan T1 - PFLs are permitted provided that:
- They are commenced from High Key or below.
- Aircraft must remain VMC.
- Aircraft remain on Valley Twr throughout.
9: LL Departures
You have warned out for a LL South departure to enter LL on the Llyn Peninsula. Valley is operating on RWY 01.
How do you fly the departure?
What service do you expect from ATC?

For RWY 01, aircraft should depart downwind and remain clear of the approach lane.
Cross the coast at 1000 ft QFE.
Descend and remain at or below 500 ft QFE until radar has reported “no instrument or recovering traffic to affect”.
If ATC reports instrument traffic, then aircraft should not climb above 1000 ft until positively clear.
ATC will provide a BS and should advise of any rotary wing operations that may affect the departure.
10: Rotary Procedures A23
You are cleared line up only due to a departing 202 Juno crossing the active runway. They are departing via East Gate for the MFTA. What height are you expecting the Juno to transit at? In what situation would you expect to receive traffic information on the departing Juno?

Helicopters routing VFR to the east should maintain 250 ft MSD until East Gate, then between 200 ft and 500 ft MSD until Pont Marquis (appx RWY 13 extended centreline, in-line with Newborough forest).
They are deemed separated from IFR traffic however the radar returns should not be allowed to merge.

Texan T1 - 180/240 kts (standard/high speed).
Hawk T2 - 230/300 kts.
High-speed should be requested and approved by ATC.
12: Recovery RT A24
You are recovering VFR from the A5 pass to RWY 31RH, when should you contact Valley?
At what range should you normally contact Valley?

Aircraft from A5 pass should contact App as soon as practicable (in order to obtain Straits traffic information).
13: RT Failure Recovery A24
You experience a total RT failure. You squawk 7600 and make blind radio calls. What type of recovery are you expected to conduct VFR / IFR?

VFR - A normal join through Initial and a normal circuit.
IFR
Texan - Follow ‘ILS against the stream’ procedure from Point X to Circling Minima, then position for runway with caravan at threshold.
Hawk - Proceed to TACAN Hold at FL65 and fly a TACAN app to the last known RWYin use.
14: ‘Collision Lake’ A25
Valley are operating on RWY 31RH and Mona are on RWY 04RH. You elect to conduct a visual recovery via initial to Valley. When should you contact Valley Tower, what height restrictions apply?
A25 - FOB 2307 - Rules of the Air
Tower - 3nm from initial.
Joining Valley - initial at 1000 ft Valley QFE.
Joining Mona - Initial at/above 2000 ft Mona QFE.
15: Mixed Type Circuits A25
A Texan T1 and Hawk T2 are both inbound for a visual join through initial.
What restrictions apply?

Hawk - no more than 300 kts IAS.
Texan - no less than 240 kts IAS and a VRIAB
