Q

What are the wx requirements for MPMs?

A
  • 5000ft AGL/ASL - QFIs/IV(AC)Sqn trainees
  • 7000ft AGL/ASL - XXV(F)Sqn trainees
  • 2000ft vertically/1500m horizontally clear of cloud. No OTMs at night.

Q

Describe the Pitch Back

A

(0.74M - 10,000ft datum - 8,000ft base)

  • Simulates defensive turn with hostile in your 6 o’clock into a merge at corner speed
  • L/O, check TCAS, Arm CF, roll into a level turn and stand the throttle up.
  • Pull to 3AoA, squeeze to 4AoA.
  • At 0.7M increase to moderate buffet, as CF deploys select full power, over bank to maintain approximately 330 KIAS no more than 350 KIAS to ensure CF stays out
  • Descend to base+ and let speed decay to 300 KIAS (always calling out heights)
  • Roll out, flight path, dead wing, TCAS.

Q

Describe the Roll Off the Top & Slow Speed Reversals

A

(Speed 350 KIAS - 10,000ft datum - 8,000ft base)

  • Pre-arm CF, L/O and select full power Fly loop until just before inverted attitude (15NU)
  • Roll erect and achieve 160 KIAS (10NU / feet on horizon)
  • Begin max performance (light buffet) turn
  • Maintaining 160 KIAS, reverse turn as directed
  • Will require positive unload and full aileron, do not use rudder to help the turn If using too much buffet, regain.
  • Roll off bank as req to maintain speed and nose up

Q

Describe the Rate to Base

A
  • Check height above base, apply full power and select CF
  • Aggressively achieve 50-60◦ND and pull to light buffet
  • Roll into to prevent nose rising, call out heights
  • At 270 KIAS smoothly raise attitude and aim for moderate buffet
  • Adjust AoB to level at sensible height above base (500ft works well) and maintain 300 KIAS.
  • Roll out, dead wing, TCAS, deselect CF as req.

Q

Describe the Defensive Break

A

(330 KIAS - at datum height )

  • CF selected, full power, 330 KIAS
  • Break and pull to moderate buffet, lift vector on hostile’s upper wingtip simultaneously cracking back the throttle to simulate chilling
  1. Maintain tally
  2. Select Flares
  3. Hold moderate buffet to bleed speed to a minimum of 160 KIAS
  • Regain when hostile is nose off (aim for 1kt per second)
  1. Unload to just off the light buffet, alter lift vector to hostile’s lower wingtip
  2. Apply full power to accelerate to 300 kts if possible
  3. Descend to base+ (approx. 5 deg ND)
  • Sustain 300 KIAS until again threatened where the process begins again

Q

Describe the Down Range Travel Stop

A

(270 KIAS - 10,000ft datum - 8,000ft base)

A BFM manoeuvre allowing reduction of forward motion if executed correctly

  • L/O, check TCAS, select full power and CF
  • During Defensive Break, on ”HOSTILE FLY THROUGH”, maintain Moderate Buffet whilst rolling wings level and pitch to 50-60NU
  • Barrel roll lift vector aggressively into hostile’s 6 o’clock using light buffet
  • Monitor base and nose attitude, use all of available height for best rate of turn
  • Level above base, dead wing, TCAS, deselect CF.

Change nose up attitude dependant on energy state on roll in, as a rule of thumb whatever nose up you achieve, you should aim for no more than half of that nose down
