According to Prochaska, what is the number one reason people aren’t successful making behavior changes related to high risk health behaviors?
Most people don’t know how to change.
The first step is to change your mental model of change. Most people have an action model of change (ie. behavior change = action). According to the stages of change theory, people have to move through the precontemplation and contemplation stages before they begin to take action to successfully make a behavior change.
