What are the two ways the SPB can be operated?
Local & Train-lined

How do they operate?
In the cabin van area.
Gauge above the buttons indicates on/off
Manual release and apply only for the motor car they are in.
They are pneumatic and will operate provided there is sufficient air in Main Res.

How are the Train-lined SPB’s operated?
To apply - Press the RED Park Brake On button for 5 seconds
To release - Press the GREEN Park Brake On button for 5 seconds
For the Train-lined SPB buttons to release what position does the Reverser need to be in.
FORWARD, NEUTRAL or REVERSE.
For the Train-lined SPB buttons to operate what else needs to have happened?
One Pantograph raised, and one Motor Alternator needs to be running.
After MA operable for 60 seconds the Train-lined buttons will become energised.
How are the Train-lined SPB’s automatically operated?
The Reverser is moved to OFF
60 secs after the Reverser is moved to NEUTRAL
What speed will ensure the SPB’s remain released?
8kmh - when REVERSER is not in the OFF position
When would you have to isolate a SPB?
When there is a rupture between SPB buttons and isolating cocks, SPB’s on both bogies would need to be manually released
When there is a rupture between SPB isolating cock and a SPB operating cylinder, only the SPB on the affected bogie would need to be manually released
How do you manually release a Knorr SPG?
Large curled knob on outer edge of brake cylinder must be turned
ANTI-CLOCKWISE - one turn
How do you re-apply the SPB on a Knorr?
Cannot be manually applied
Main Res. air has to be supplied
How do you manually release a Westcode SPB?
With a Socket and brace
Turn hexagonal nut
6-8 turns ANTI-CLOCKWISE
How do you re-apply SPB on a Westcode?
Main Res. air supply will reset it
or
Manually turn hexagonal nut
40-60 turns CLOCKWISE
