what is an observation
watching a performer during competition to assess signs of anxiety evident in performance. Carried out whilst the performer is training / competing allowing the coach to assess in the most relevant environment.
why is an observation valid / not valid
valid - performer is observed in a real life setting
not valid - observer may draw different conclusions when presented with the same info.
what is a questionaire
series of questions used to assess the levels of anxiety experianced by a performer
quick, cheap, efficient to use allowing large amounts of data to be collected
why is a questionaire valid / not valid
valid - measures are valid, provides reliable info as they allow the performer time to consider there answer
not valid - inapropriate , biased, results may not be valid
what are physiological measures
moniter symptoms of somatic anxiety including increased HR, respiration rate, etc
provides objective numerical data, carried out in real life environments
why are physiological measures valid / not valid
valid - objective, not affected by performers mood / situation
not valid - aware they are being assessed so may change behaviour
