How can family affect participation in sport positively?

A

. Can give you lifts to your sport club/pitch/training ground
. Can pay for out of school club, kit, equipment…
. Parents might encourage sport especially if they are into sports themselves or have played or still play sports
. If parents or siblings play sport it can be familiar to you making you more likely to take it up or can start since young and continue
. Can help you train so you don’t feel as if you’re behind making you enjoy it more

A

. Parents might discourage children to do contact sport-fear of injury
. Might not be able to give you lifts
. Can put too much pressure on you making it not enjoyable

A

. If your friends play a sport you’re likely to play with them
. Friends might discourage you if they do not like sport themselves (especially if you’re breaking stereotypes- getting made fun of)

A

. Females tend to have greater flexibility as they have less muscle mass encouraging girls
. Boys tend to be stronger, faster because they have more muscle mass leading to higher level

How can gender influence participation negatively?

A

. Boys tend to be less flexible due to more muscle mass could impact involvement in gymnastics or dance
. Stereotypical views, opinions that girls had to be feminine not muscular or competitive but the carer at home, muscles seen as ugly and manly
. Boys overtake girls in height weight strength so if hey play together risk of injury maybe not enough people to separate genders
.Women have less media coverage so fewer female role models to inspire younger generation

How does religion and ethnicity affect participation?

A

. Can have strict rules on modesty, women having expectations for clothes some sport clothes may be too revealing e.g swimsuit
. Might be required to wear headdresses for example a Sikh turban and there’s risk of coming off (or cant wear on swim caps)
.Religious guideline might effect training for example cant train on Sundays or cant train in Ramadan as they are fasting and cant exert themselves

How can age affect participation?

A

. Less likely to play when elderly as bones are more brittle- prone to injury
. Flexibility decreases with age making it harder to participate as you age for example splits in gymnastics
. When teenage, it can clash with school homework or exams e.g GCSE and some people have to make choice between education and sport

1)Financial- sponsorship will give you more money to help with finances like renting out a pitch to advertise product/company

2)Clothing, equipment- sponsors will give you money for clothing and equipment you can buy from their company

3) Facilities- sponsors will give you money to help with facilities to help fix a stadium in return for advertising
