What is spina bifida occulta?
A NTD that involves only the deeper layers
What is spina bifida aperta?
Involves all layers from the dura to the skin, open defect
What are the 2 types of spina bifida aperta?
Meningocele: only the meninges and CSF protruding
Myelomeningocele: meninges, CSF, and neural tissue
What is Rachischisis?
Failure of fusion of the vertebral arches
What is Arnold Chiari II malformation?
Downward displacement and hypoplasia of cerebellum
What is the best plane to assess the spine?
Transverse
What is iniencephaly?
Inien= nape of neck
Shortens the neck and head becomes flexed back/stargazer
What is caudal regression?
A range of abnormalities of the spine (sacral and lumbar)
What is sirenomelia?
Absent sacrum and fusion of the legs
What is sacrococcygeal teratoma?
Lesions that contains elements of many tissues
