What do each part of an Angiosperm do
A
- Petals: Collectively called thecorolla, are usually bright in colour to attract pollinators such as birds and bees.
- Stamen: The male part of the flower that consists of an anther and a filament.
- Theanthercontains the male gametes in pollen grains.
- Thefilamentis a supportive structure that holds the anther in an upright position.
- Sepals: Collectively called thecalyx, which is the green leaves at the base of a flower that offers protection to a newly formed, budding flower.
- Carpel: The female part of the flower that consists of a stigma, style, ovule and ovary.
- Thestigmais a sticky, receptive structure that receives pollen from the anther of the flower.
- Thestyleis a supportive structure that holds the stigma in an upright position.
- Theovuleis a structure that holds the female gametes and develops into aseedafter fertilisation.
- Theovaryis a structure that contains the ovule and that becomes thefruitafter fertilisation.
