special endocytosis Flashcards
once LDL has fused into clathrin coated vesicle from exoplasmic side, what does it first fuse with on cytosolic side?
early endosome
what pathway does LDL follow?
vesicle, early endosome, late endosome, endolysosome, hydrolytic enzymes release cholesterol into cytosol
what is cholesterol critical for?
the formation of healthy cell membranes.
where is cholesterol obtained?
from diet, and it is synthesized by human body
LDLs
low density lipoproteins. form in which cholesterol is transported around the body
what does a cell do when it needs cholesterol?
it produces LDL receptors on its surface. LDL receptors bind circulating LDLs.
what do LDL receptors do on cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane?
receptors bind to adaptins, which in turn bind to clathrin.
how does LDL enter cell?
receptor mediated endocytosis
where does LDL dissociate from its recepor?
in the endosomal environment
what happens to LDL receptor proteins after they have delivered LDL?
they are returned to plasma membrane using transport vesicles that bud off from early endosomes
