What is a backup hose line?
A second hose line deployed to protect primary egress for interior crews. Shall be equal to or larger in length and diameter than the attack line.
What is a CAN report?
Communication between tactical levels and command. Includes fire conditions, crew actions and needs.
What is the Communication Model?
Dialog between receiver and sender, repeated for accuracy and accountability.
What are some examples of critical fire ground factors?
Building construction, the fire, occupancy type, life hazards, arrangement of the building, resources, actions, special circumstances.
What is door control?
Managing the fire environment by limiting ventilation via controlling the entry point.
What is flow path?
The movement of heat, gasses and smoke from an area of high pressure to low.
What is hazard zone management?
Providing safety and over site within a hazard zone.
Task level- Company officer
Tactical level- District Chief
Strategic level- Command
What is a horizontal standpipe?
2 1/2” line deployed to an attack point then wying off to 1 3/4” hand line.
What is an Incident Action Plan (IAP)?
A written or oral plan containing incident priorities, operational objectives, strategy and supporting tactics.
First arriving officer is responsible to initiate the IAP.
What is the inside out deployment model?
Utilizing tactical crews for RIT in the immediate area of a fire fighter that is need of help.
What is a Mayday?
A radio phrase announcing a firefighter is in a life threatening or pending life threatening situation.
What is on deck?
A forward staging position located outside the immediate hazard zone. Crew assigned on deck is ready to receive any assignment.
What is a RIT/RIC?
A dedicated crew assigned for rapid deployment to rescue a firefighter. Considered an outside-in deployment model.
What is recycle?
Firefighters placed back on deck or reassigned after one work cycle.
What is a targeted search?
Searching for a victim in a known area.
