What information should be obtained at vehicle lock-out calls?
Name of owner/driver
Vehicle license number
Brief description of vehicle
Ensure the driver is aware that they shall pay for any cost incurred
What would necessitate immediate action at a vehicle lock-out?
Life safety concerns. Break window farthest from occupant in trouble
What options may be made available to driver/owner of vehicle at a non-emergency lockout?
Tow request
Locksmith
Contact a dealership regarding that model
Roadside assistance
CAA
Obtain 2nd set of keys
At a vehicle lock-out, What assumptions shall be made until proven otherwise?
The patient’s safety is at risk and it is an emergency situation
When is it ok to use locksmith tools to open a door?
Never
What may be involved in scene stabilization at an MVC?
Traffic control (temporarily when necessary)
Deploying a foam handline
Dealing with hazards (downed lines, fuel spills)
Ensure adequate lighting
What risk is involved with a hybrid vehicle?
Orange power cable underneath vehicle. It is not to be touched, cut or disconnected at any time.
What other considerations should be given to hybrid vehicles?
Even when no noise is heard, they may still be powered and turned on
High voltage system needs to be shut down prior to entering a damaged vehicle
There may be residual power in other batteries
When submerged:
- avoid contacting any electrical components
- Turn off ignition at most, do not attempt any other disabling techniques
- If ignition cannot be turned off, wait until vehicle is removed and drained of water before disabling attempts
What is the responsibilities of first arriving apparatus for a TR call?
Initial report
Size-up and info gathering
Begin to develop IAP
Request TR team if not included in initial dispatch
Assign duties
Relay pertinent info
What is involved in a TR size-up
Talk to witnesses
Number and location of victims
Age and status of victims
Medical emergency?
Hazards
Type of rescue required
Need for additional assistance
When is hot-zone entrance allowed at TR call?
When personnel have required training and equipment to effect rescue
What are the 3 levels of Elevator Rescue
1 - Standby - Non Life-Threatening
2 - Removal - (passive measures to remove victim) Allowed when 90 minutes has elapsed for entrapment, Non-life threatening medical factors are involved,
Severe environmental factors are a concern (heat, etc)
3 - Rescue - (forceful measures are warranted)
Immediate threat to life,
Extreme environmental factors
Who may remove trapped occupants from the elevator?
Only personnel, trained under the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), using approved equipment and endorsed procedures
How many certified personnel are required to respond to an elevator rescue?
Minimum three
What is required for Level 1 Elevator Standby?
Get superintendent
Have super contact elevator company and est. time of arrival
Size-up
Assess occupant conditions, notify ambulance if required
Remove patient if necessary
Continue to assess conditions of trapped persons until handed off to responsible person
