Soft Tissue Injury Flashcards
What is a strain?
Overstretching, overexertion, or overuse of soft tissue. Less severe than a sprain.
What is a sprain?
Severe stress, stretch, or tear of soft tissue.
What is a dislocation?
Displacement of a part resulting in loss of anatomical relationship.
What is a subluxation?
Incomplete or partial dislocation of bony partners.
What is a muscle/tendon rupture/tear?
Complete: No pain, Incomplete: painful.
What is tenosynovitis?
Inflammation of the synovial membrane covering the tendon.
What is tendonitis?
Inflammation of the tendon.
What is Grade 1 (first-degree) injury?
Mild pain at time of injury, mild swelling, local tenderness, and pain when tissue stressed (25% tear).
What is Grade 2 (second-degree) injury?
Moderate pain, stress and palpation greatly increases pain. Results in some clinical laxity (25-50% tear).
What is Grade 3 (third-degree) injury?
Near-complete (complete) tear or avulsion of tissue with severe pain. Stress to tissue is usually painless, and palpation can reveal defect (complete or near complete tear) results in clinical laxity.
What is tendinosis?
Degeneration of tendon due to repetitive trauma.
What is synovitis?
Inflammation of the synovial membrane.
What is hemarthrosis?
Bleeding into the joint.
What is a ganglion?
Ballooning of the wall of the joint capsule.
What is bursitis?
Inflammation of the bursa.
What is a contusion?
Bruising.
What is Tendinopathy?
chronic tendon pathology
