16
Q

What is the pressure applied in Muscle Squeezing?

A

Light to moderate.

17
Q

What is the direction of Muscle Squeezing?

A

Applied around the circumference of muscle belly and limbs.

18
Q

What are the indications for Muscle Squeezing?

A

Specific area/rx, increase circulation, mobilization of soft tissue.

19
Q

What is the contact area for Wringing?

A

Palmar surface of both hands.

20
Q

What is the pressure applied in Wringing?

A

Light to heavy.

21
Q

What is the direction of Wringing?

A

Across long axis of body segment.

22
Q

What is the contact area for Picking Up (C-Kneading)?

A

Palmar surface, especially between web space between thumb and index finger.

23
Q

What is the pressure applied in Picking Up (C-Kneading)?

A

Light to moderate.

24
Q

What is the direction of Picking Up (C-Kneading)?

A

Parallel to the long axis of body segment.

25
Q

What is the duration for Picking Up (C-Kneading)?

A

20-60 seconds or more.

26
Q

What is Tapotement?

A

Percussion, repeated rhythmical light striking.

27
Q

What are the uses of Tapotement?

A

Clearance of airways, proprioceptive stimulation, increasing levels of arousal, pain relief.

28
Q

What is the contact area for Tapotement?

A

Fingers, fingertips, ulnar border of hands, palms.

29
Q

What is the pressure applied in Tapotement?

A

Light to heavy (quick, light, and even).

30
Q

What is deep friction massage?

A

Deep circular or cross fiber massage.

Applies stress to scar tissue as it matures to align collagen for normal mobility.

31
Q

What are the indications for deep friction massage?

A

Used to break up adhesions or minimize ‘rough’ surfaces between tendons and their sheaths; Increase Mobility of scar tissue.

32
Q

What are the contraindications for massage?

A

Inflammation due to infection; ossification in soft tissue structures; bursitis; RA; around nerves.

Cancer, thrombolysis, acute inflammation

33
Q

What are the principles of deep friction massage?

A

Movements must have sufficient depth to reach lesions; direction of stroke is across the fibers; muscles must be put on slack; tendon must be put on stretch.

34
Q

What is the duration for deep friction massage?

A

1-10 minutes.
