soft tissue Flashcards
tendonitis vs -osis
Tendinitis = acutely inflamed swollen tendon that does not have microscopic tendon damage
Tendinosis = chronically damaged tendon characterised by disorganised fibres and a hard, thickened, scared and rubbery appearance
unexpected cause of tendonitis and MOA
renal dialysis, poss use of steroids messing up collagen production
what do see here in this previously damaged achilles tendon
heterotopic calcification
which procedure is often associated with heterotopic ossification and what is the tx
hip replacement
prophylactic NSAIDS
describe the 4 phases of tendon healing
what is a fibrous enthesis
Fibrous tissue extends all way up to bone
what is a fibrocartilaginous enthesis
3 examples of fibrocartilagenous enthesis
rotator cuff muscles, Achilles tendon, plantar fascia
what happens at a fibrous enthesis?
collagenous Sharpey fibres pierce through periosteum to attach tendon to the bone
what sort of enthesis is this
fibrocartilagenous
gene associated with ankylysing spondylitis
HLA-B27
what is an enthesophyte
tendon gets damaged and repalced with bone which protrudes outwards making a bone spur
which IL associated with enthetitis
IL23
tnf alpha inhibitor
infliximab
tx for autoimmune musculoskeletal conditions
methotrexate
sulfasalazine
infliximab
