Views people as proactive and goal seeking. role taking, seing ourselves from viewpoint of others

Idea that sexual behaviour is scripted. A result of elaborate prior learning that teaches us an etiquette.

A

3 basic assumptions;

  1. Every society regulates the sexuality of its members
  2. The appropriateness or inappropriateness of particular sexual behaviour depends on institutional context in which they occur
  3. basic institutions of society affect the rules governing sexuality in that society.
