Feminist Theory
Sees gender as dimension of status and Inequality, 4 essential assertions:
- Sexuality (rape, abortion, herassment)
- Gender Roles/socialization (social learning theory)
- Intersectionality (multiple identities intersect and are what makes a person.)
- Performativity; way gender is performed
Performativity
Refers to ways we perform gender/sexuality based on norms of society. Eg wearing a dress.
Queer theory
Questions the socially determined categorization of sexuality and gender. Questioning (gender) binary and norms, challenging heteronormativity.
Critical race theory
Examines ways in whcih race and racism have an impact on social structures/institutions.
Foundational concept: race is not a biological fact but socially constructed.
Institutional racism
Policies of institutions that advantage some racila groups and disadvantage others.
