Q

How did post ww2 impact the design movement?

A

-furniture produced in Britain, shortly after the World War II is referred to as utility furniture
-The government came up with the scheme to cope with the shortage of raw materials at the time.
-utility furniture was mass produced and allowed regulation of timber to ensure there was no waste material, due to the shortage of raw material.
-Utility furniture was very simplistic versions of furniture, which used as little timber as possible while still trying to be functional. Often utility furniture aimed to be multifunctional as well.
-The C4 symbol was developed to show how the product met the government requirements
-however, after utility furniture, this influence many movements including pop art, contempry etc, as many people wanted to move more towards aesthetics instead of basic functionality.

-cat is the use of software control machines to aid in the design process. It is quicker than traditional methods.
-CNC, files of the furniture parts are made and are then cut out using CNC machines, such as CNC routers or laser cutters. The furniture is even sold as flatpack or assembled together.
