Q

What is total quality management TQM?

A

-this is where companies recognise that people make mistakes, but only when conditions allow this to happen
-So from this accompany will use all of the workers in the organisation to put ideas and observations in place to make mistakes less likely to happen
-So it is a system based upon that, every member of staff must be committed to maintaining high standards of work

Q

What is scrum?

A

-scrum is used to manage complex product development and aims to be initiative.
-Scrum refers to an agile team collaboration framework, and consists of three types of worker: product, owners, developers, scrum master.

Q

What is six sigma?

A

Six Sigma is a quality-control methodology that businesses use to significantly reduce defects and improve processes
-by stopping manufacturing defects from occurrence by getting processes to the point where they produce stable and predictable results
-it does it through identifying cause of the defect, and then reducing this in the processes.

Q

How is waste reduced in manufacture?

A

-closed loop systems
-re using materials
-produce more accurate results through use of jigs, so less products are having to go to waste in the first place
-try and use little energy and low energy equipment
-reducing the amount of materials actually used to make product or packaging in the first place

Q

-how can you ensure that parts are made accurately within tolerance?

A

-The use of jigs
-The use of Go no go gauges
-The use of templates
-The use of CAD and cam equipment to reduce human error and manufacture all product products to be the same

Q

-what are Go no go gauges?

A

-used to check parts are in tolerance, if the product fits into the Gage perfectly then it should be in the correct tolerance

Q

What is laser/ probe scanning?

A

Laser scanner output creates a three-dimensional model of a surface, in order to determine something about the physical characteristics of an object, or to identify any defects with with the outer surface of a product

Q

-give examples of how nondestructive methods of testing be used?

A

-X-rays and ultrasound can be used to check manufactured objects for defects such as cracks, other flaws
Eg, looks for cracks in a pipe
-x-rays ultrasound can quickly produce a 3-D image of parts as they move along an x-ray or Ultrasound to compare dimensions and surface Finish to check that is within Torrance.

Q

What are veneer calipers?

A

-a measuring device that is used for the measurement of linear dimensions
-a veneer caliper can be adjusted to measure the distance between something. The Veneer callipers will be adjusted, and this can be compared to a scale of measurement on the side to identify how far apart two components are.

Q

-what is a micrometre?

A

measurement of very small objects. They allow for the highly precise measurement of any item that fits between the anvil and spindle, identifying the size of very small objects

Q

What are jigs?

A

-They serve as a template for repetitive tasks in measuring, cutting, drilling or can be used to hold a cutting tool in place or guide it as it performs a repetitive task like drilling or tapping holes

Q

-What are the strengths of using jigs?

A

-used to reduce applied labor time and improve ergonomics and quality.
-faster then drawing out by hand
-makes sure if lots if components are being produced that they are all the same.
-accuracy is improved as human error is reduced
