Social And Moral Issues Flashcards
-how can designers produce products to be more sustainable?
-The use of fair trade schemes
-Ethically sourcing materials, e.g. wood from the FSC
-Recycling, materials
-designing electrical products which do not use a lot of electricity
-what are the six Rs of sustainability?
Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair
-How does fair trade impact design?
-fair trade, reduces the features such as less migration as people are being treated fair, so they have less reason to move to get a better job
-trade also insures that the product are ethically sourced and come from workers who are being paid well and Fairly
-What is inclusive design?
-the design of mainstream products so they are accessible to as may people as possible.
-What is empathetic design?
-where designers take part in tasks simulating restrictions faces by a user group, so they have a better understanding of what they are designing for
-give an example of empathetic design?
-ford developed third aged suits to simulate difficulty’s which old people may face when driving so that they can develop there cars with an understanding
-give an example of how design can help with social issues e.g. poverty, health, well-being, et cetera.
- an example to show how designs can help with social issues would be the gravity light
-this was a crowd funded project which targeted poorer families in Kenya.
-it was found that 30% of their income was spent on kerosene fuel for lamps
-from this gravity light was developed, which used gravity and a motor to produce electricity, which gives off five times more light than kerosene
-this was much safer and free to use
Showing how some design solutions can help with social issues, such as poverty and health
