mean years of schooling, expected years of schooling, life expectancy at birth, and gross national income (GNI) per capita.
How does HDI link to development
shows standard living
Why is HDI considered accurate
composite combines measure more reliable
Compares change over time
can be used to asses success international policies
Limitations of HDI
Non measure of inequality within data
doesn’t consider gender disparity or environmental performance
What is GII
Gender Inequality Index (GII)
A composite indicator, created by the UNDP, measuring gender inequalities linked to three aspects: reproductive health, empowerment and labour force participation rate
How is GII scored and why is it a accurate measure
Countries are scored between 0 and 1. The higher the value, the greater the inequality
its accurate as average 162 countries take part you can compare
limitation of GII
The labour market dimension lacks information on employment and the quality of jobs. The index misses other important dimensions, such as unpaid work, and the fact that many women carry an unfair burden of caregiving and housekeeping.
Environmental quality how is it measured
Measured using the global Environmental Performance Index (EPI) which looks at the amount of pollution outdoors as well as the quality of air inside homes
How is environmental quality calculated and limitations
Countries are ranked in order according to their performance across 11 areas related to environmental quality
