Negatives of global shift to China Flashcards
Negatives of the global shift moving towards China
Loss of productive farmland
increase in squatter unplanned settlements
pollution and health problems
Land degradation
Over use of resources
loss of biodiversity
Loss of farmland example China
China’s industrialisation has led to a increase in removal of farmland
3m hectares of farmland the size of Belgium polluted with
An increase in unplanned settlement example China
Rapid industrialisation has increased the need for houses which has led to informal housing. Land prices have made decent housing prices unaffordable especially in cities
expanded housing in cities as villagers at extra storeys and rent it to migrant workers(illegal)
Farmland which is supposed to be owned collectively under communism is built on(illegal)
Pollution and health problems example in China
70% of China’s rivers have been polluted.
In 2015 it was calculated that 4400 people die in China each day of pollution or 1.6m people a year
Land degradation example in China
Despite China having 22% of the worlds population it only has and 7.2 % farmland
rich soils in the north are being eroded and soil in south is suffering acidification cause by industry fumes
Over exploitation of natural resources
China is abundant in coal and oil as well as iron ores and other metals but resources cant keep up with demands
they are looking in the continents of Africa ,and South America for the resources
e.g Amazonian rainforest in Ecuador have been cleared along
Loss of biodiversity example in China
350 species have been killed of i from 1970
