Lesson 2 prep Flashcards
Containerisation
Is a system of standardised transport(freight) transports for use in sea shipping. Where cargo is packed into containers by road rail to ships
Containerisation how does it speed up globalisation
reduces labour and increased speed allowing goods to be traded efficiently across the world. Making it easy to connect across the world and allows us to do it in bulk
Shrinking world meaning
Physical distance remains the same , but new technology reduces the time taken to transport - goods , people , communicate info
e.g 1990’s Concorde took 31 hours
Why is shrinking world important
Is important as it allows more knowledge about distant places makes them feel less exotic and cut off leads to more globalisation and trade as people more open and in touch due to communications and transport
What is London gateway port
London gateway port is a development on the north bank of the river Thames in Essex 20 km away from central London and is a deep water port that can handle the biggest container ships in the world
How is the London gateway port significant to globalisation
Allows more globalisation as ships from all across the world and allows more cargo to come in so more links
How far has amazon contributed to globalisation
Allows people to get products from around the world in a short period of time. Also is more affordable due to it using the internet so loads of same products which adds competition which means more people are able to get goods and allows people to see products from around the world and get it in a short time so leads to people being more inclined
