Social learning theory Flashcards
aim of bobo doll
observed the children imitate the behaviour of role models
36 boys and 36 girls between 3 to 6
three groups with 12 boys and 12 girls in each group.
Each group was put into a room with an inflatable doll and were observing an adult role for 10 mins
each group was diiferent
1 was aggressive behaviour towards the doll
2 was non aggressive behaviour
3 was a contro, group no model was shown
findings of bobo doll
childrens with aggressive role model were more aggressive than non aggressive role model and the control
Boys were more aggressive than girls in general
Children were more likely to immitate if the role model was the same gender as tnem
identification
when an individual relates to a model and feels that the he or she is similar to them
vicarious reinforcement
children who observed a model rewarded for aggressive behaviour is more likely to imitate than when children who had a model punished for the same behaviour.
the 4 types of mediating process
attention, retention, reproduction and motivation
attention
behaviour has to be important so as to grab our attention
retention
behaviour has to be remembered, if not remembered a behaviour than can not be imitated
reproduction
our abilities may affect our decision to physically reproduce the behaviour
motivation
if we think through and conclude that a potential behaviour will be positively rewarded, this motivates us to imitate the behaviour
A03:
strength
offers a more complet account than behaviourist as behaviourist is limited to a stimulus and response only, however social learning theory allows for cognitive approachin explaining behaviour
A03
limitation
Biological approach as Bobo doll experiments supports for SLT but also Biological approach as bandura consistently found that boys are more agressive than girls. This suggests biological factor (such as testerone lvl) also plays an important factor to explaining behaviour and that STL is not by itself.
