Positions in society that are used to classify individuals are known as social statuses. What are the 3 different types of social statuses ?
Ascribed: status given involuntarily (due to race, ethnicity, etc.)
Achieved: status gained
Master: status by which one is most identified by (can cause pigeonholing: on seeing someone based on their status)
What is the difference between role conflict & role strain ?
RC is difficulty satisfying the requirements of multiple roles while RS is difficulty in satisfying multiple requirements of the same role
How do in & out groups differ ?
IG are social groups where people feel a sense of belonging, while an OG are social groups where an individual does not identify
*Group conflict = out group compete w/ in group
