Q

conformity
why do people conform

A

dependency perspective and normative and informational social influence

dependency perspective
group members are cognitively and socially dependent on each other, because opinion helps them to calidate their opinions (social reality) to move the group towards its goals (group locomotion)

normative influence: the desire to be liked
informational influence: the desire to be right
making the group salient increase desire to be part of group and thus increase conformity
factors increase the credibility of the majority as a valid source of reality and lead to more conformity
