What is a prototype?
A prototype is the BEST example or cognitive representation of something within a certain category.
it is abstract and doesnt actually exist
What is an exemplar?
exeplars are like bringing to mind examples from life
What levels of categorization are typically distinguished?
Superordinate, basic, subordinate

What is the accentuation effect?
when categorizing something continuous, we tend to view them as two groups, highlight similarity within the group and difference between group
What is social categorization?
the cognitive partitioning of the social world into relatively discrete categories of individuals
What is the meta-contrast principle?
categoty prototypes accentuate similarities within a group AND differences between groups
group prototype do NOT represent avverage or typical members of one’s group. but ideal members of one’s group
what is depersonalization
when a category is salient, people view themselves as embodiments of a group
