What is peer group pressure?
Where the peer group will attempt to persuade an individual to follow their lead.
Difficult to resist,
Can shape your attitudes and behaviour,
Can affect the path you choose to take.
What are the positive and negative affects of peer groups?
Positive affect: if your peer group like sport you will want to join in with them, they may not like sport but still encourage and support you.
Negative affect: if your peer group doesn’t like sport or chooses different activities to do outside of school, you may follow and do the same.
What are the positive and negative affects of family?
Positive affects: provide financial help e.g. For kit and clubs etc, travel costs etc, transport to and from matches, support emotionally, role models - maybe sporty themselves.
Negative affects: opposites of positive, not prepared to offer support, some financially not able to do so, maybe put off sport from a negative experience at school therefore they have a negative attitude or not willing for you to do it, concerns over safety, pressure to concentrate on academic work.
