Social cognitive learning theory Flashcards
Social cognitive learning theory
Humans learn behaviors by observig others and choosing which behaviors to imitate
Attention
For an experience to have an impact on an observer, the observer must be actively observing their surroundings
Retention
The observe can recall the learned experience
Reinforcement
Does the observed behavior lead to positive effects, would there be motivation to repeat it
Reproduction
The person is capable of imitating the observed behavior
Wolfgang Kohler
Created insight learning by putting apes into problem-solving scenarios that required they access fruit hanging just above their heads and out of their natural reach. Once they found out they could not reach the fruit, they stopped and thought about how to solve the problem.
Insight learning
A type of learning that uses reason, especially to form conclusions, inferences or judgments to solve a problem.
Edward Toleman
Created Latent learning
Latent learning
Subconscious retention of information without reinforcement or motivation
Social-Cognitive Learning theory
Observational learning
Who created Social-Cognitive Learning Theory
Albert Bandura
Bobo Doll Studies
Experiment by Albert Bandura where kids were exposed to aggressive and non aggresive models of people’s interactions with a bobo doll.
Results were kids who observed aggressive model showed far more imative aggressive responses than those in the non-aggressive group
4 Processes for observational learning to best occur
Attention, Retention, Reproduction, Reinforcement
