there are 4 steps

leads ppl to doubt their own views

more and more people agree with minority, it reaches a tipping
and minority becomes the majority
passing laws
this insures everyone obeys
NSI - people don’t want to be seen as devient
follow society norms

inconsistent- 1.25%
evidence for- Nolan et al (neighbour influence)
hung letters saying everyone has reduced their energy use
ppl used less energy when they thought everyone else was
supports the view that conformity can lead to social change through the use of NSI
evidence for- benefits real-life
benefits the economy
the government set up “nudge unit”
they have used NSI messages to reduced drunk driving, pay tax’s, reduce junk food consumption
telling ppl what the social norm is
evidence against- moscovici is low in ecological validity
research gathered from a lab
artificial setting, not representative of real life
IRL minority groups are fighting for more severe issues then colour judgment
findings can’t be generalised to real life
