many Americans wanted to enjoy themselves as much as they could by perhaps listening to the new jazz music

The emphasis on having fun and spending money has led to the 1920s being called the Roaring Twenties.
How did radio and film affect lives in the 20s?
They were the main sources of entertainment and not everybody could read so it replaced the newspaper for the. It also was a source of advertisement for other products in the time period.
What did Jazz music do to affect social values?
Jazz was much more rhythmic and sexy, and it was easy to dance to. This led to young people smoking, drinking and, according to some, behaving indecently. College students, especially, were willing to challenge their parents’ values and lifestyle.
What was invented that now meant people could be involved from the comfort of their home?
The first radio station was introduced, allowing people who couldn’t afford to attend nightclubs to enjoy jazz and blues music.
How were sports figures now turning into national icons?
Due to sports games now being broadcast on the radio, certain figures were turning into national icons.
How much did cinema attendance rise by?
20 million (1920) up to 100 million in 1929! This also introduced comedy actor Charlie chaplin which began to mark the beginning of celebrity culture.
Why were people shocked by some films shown in cinemas?
Films used sex appeal to sell their films (frowned upon by older generations) and pre-martial sex was becoming more common.
What did older generations think that the film industry was teaching younger generations?
They though it was leading to “a decline in sexual morals”
How did they radio impact on the economy?
Due to mass production and hire purchase, huge numbers were sold.
Who were Vanzetti and Sacco?
Men who were arrested with suspicion of murder (due to them saying they wanted to overthrow government)
