Seven components of a balanced diet
Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fibre, minerals, vitamins and water.
Carbohydrates
Stored in muscles and the liver as glycogen which is converted into glucose is used to provide energy.
Fats
They provide energy and help the muscles to work, found in butter and margarine highly.
Proteins
Builds muscles up and repairs damaged tissues found in meat poultry, or bread and potatoes.
Vitamins
Vitamins are essential for: good vision, good skin, red blood cell formation.
Minerals
Essential for a healthy body
Dehydation
The loss of water and salts for normal body function.
Hydrate
Take on water
Metabolic rate
The rate at which metabolic processes take place, the rate at which a body uses up energy.
Hydration
Being hydrated means the body has the correct amount of water in cells, tissues and organs to function correctly. The average recommended daily intake is 2.5 litres of water for men and 2 litres for women.
Diuretic
Making you produce more urine.
