Frontal axis
Imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from left to right, allows flexion and extension.
Vertical axis
Imaginary line passing vertically through the body, allows rotation of the body in an upright position.
Sagittal axis
Imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from front to back, allows abduction and adduction.
Plane
An imaginary flat surface that divides the body into sections.
Axis (pl. axes)
An imaginary straight line around which something turns.
Sagittal plane
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically into left and right sides.
Frontal plane
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically from front to back.
Transverse plane
An imaginary plane dividing the body horizontally from top to bottom.
