What is a PAR-Q?
A physical activity readiness questionnaire, a self screening tool that can be used by anyone who is playing to start an exercise or training level.
Why might a trainer get their customer to answer a PAR-Q?
To know their past and current fitness level
To know any injuries or disease/illnesses
Find their goals
When would you use a PAR-Q?
When planning to start a training programme or exercise routine?
Why do we perform a warmup?
Prepare the muscles
Prepare the joints
Prepare the mind
Reduce risk of injury
Prepare the ligament
Prepare the cardiovascular system
Why do we warm-up?
To avoid injury, prepare the mind and prepare cardiovascular system.
What are the phases to a warm-up
Cardiovascular, dynamic and static stretching and a sport specific(rondo, tackle practice)
What do we do during our cardiovascular phase?
Gradually raise our heart rate to the working heart rate
How long is the cardiovascular phase supposedly?
10-15 minutes
What do we do during the stretching phase of our warm-up?
Static and dynamic stretches to lengthen our muscles and lower our risk of injury
What do we do during the sport specific phase?
Practice the skills pf our activity we are about to commence in.
How long should we hold a static stretch for?
15-30s
What are the two phases of a cooldown?
Cardiovascular phase (light jog)
Stretching phase (usually static)
What is a cool down?
Activities similar to those used in the warm-up such as jogging can be used to return the heart gradually to its resting level.
What makes a goal SMART?
Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time bound.
Why do we set SMART goals?
To keep a performer motivated and make them better and readh their optimum.
