Q

How does a warm up/cool down prevent injury?

A

Warm up: perform a light aerobic activity to increase blood flow to working muscles and stretch those muscles to prevent injury

Cool down: gradually reduce the level of activity to help with the disperal of lactic acid and avoid muscle stifness

Q

What does RICE stand for?

A

Rest: stop playing
Ice: the cold can provide pain relief and limits swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area
Compression: use pressure to hold the ice pack on the injury, this also limits swelling.
Elevation: raise the injury. If possible keep the area at or above the level of the injured person’s heart as this will minimise swelling.

Q

How do principles of training prevent/cause injury

A

Ability and fitness levels will vary greatly in sport. Therefore, it is important to group performers of similar ability to ensure balanced competition. You will also need to apply the correct principles of training to avoid
overuse injuries.

Q

What is a fracture?
What are the different types of fractures?

A

A fracture is a broken or a cracked bone. There are several types of fractures
including:
● Stress fractures (overuse injuries): They can happen as a result of fatigue.
● Compound fractures: the broken bone protrudes through the skin.
● In closed: the skin over the break is not damaged.
● Simple fracture: takes place with no displacement of the bone.
