What do you need to consider when deciding which training methods to use ?
Requirements of the sport
Facilities in the local area
Individuals current fitness levels
Continuous training
Working your body for long periods of time without any rest
P - Improves cv fitness
N- Doesnt improve anaerobic fitness
Fartlek training
A method of training for runners where the terrain and speed are constantly changing
P - Can include rest periods or can be continuous
N - Difficult for the coach to monitor unless he runs with the athlete
Circuit training
A series of exercises completed for a certain amount of time/reps, after one another
P - A good source of all round fitness
N - It is important to work hard on each circuit but people often pace themselves
Interval training
Physical training involving alternating stages of high and low-intensity activity
P - Includes repetitions of high-quality work that can get the heart rate nearly up to max
N - Can be intense so needs full commitment
Plyometrics training
Exercises where muscles use maximum force in short intervals of time
P - Exercises can be designed for a specific performances e.g. high jump
N - Need knowledge of your event or a coach
Weight training
Involves shifting weight to increase the strength of the muscle using a programme of exercises
P - Programme can be specific to muscle group
N- Needs suitable facilities and equipment
What are the 5 fitness classes ?
Aerobics = aerobic exercise which covers a variety of different exercises
Body Pump = using low weights with many repetitions using a variety of exercises
Pilates = core stability exercises focusing on the quality of the exercises
Yoga = focuses on posture, balance and breathing to boost physical well-being
Spinning = aerobic and anaerobic cycling on a stationary bike
Aerobic
