Working your body for a long period of time without any rest
What is the definition of fartlek training?
A method of training for runners where the terrain and speed are constantly changing
What are the advantages of fartlek training?
Can be done on a variety of terrains
Can include rest periods
What are the disadvantages of fartlek training?
May not be suitable terrain near by
Difficult for the coach to monitor unless runs with athlete
What are the advantages of continuous training?
Improves cardiovascular fitness
Can be done alone or with a group
What are the disadvantajes of continuous training?
Some people find it boring
Does not improve anaerobic fitness
What is the definition of circuit training?
A series of exercis completed for a certain amount of time/reps, one after another
What are the advantages of circuit training?
Can combine many components of fitness
A good source of all round fitness
Can include both aerobic and anaerobic exercises
What are the disadvantages of circuit training?
The circuit needs to be set up and well planned out
It is important to work hard in each circuit but people oftwn pace themselves

Physical training involving alternating stages of high and low- intensity activity
What are the advantages of interval training?
Includes repeated sprints, which is anaerobic
Included a rest period
Includes repitions of high-quality work that can get the heart rate nearly up to max
What are the disadvantages of interval training?
Can be intense so needs full commitment
Some people find repeating intervals boring
