What are the 6 skill related compoments of fitness?
Agility
Balance
Co-ordinarion
Power
Reaction time
Speed
What is Agility?
The ability to change position and control the body at speed
Sports like football and rugby need agility to be able to change direction with the ball
What is Balance?
Being able to keep the body stable while at rest or on the move
There a two types of balance:
Static balance is keeping the body stable while stationary - e.g doing doing a handstand
Dynamic balance is maintaining a controlled, stable position while moving - e.g hammer throwing
What is Co-ordination?
The ability to use two or more body parts together
There are differemt types of Co-ordination:
Foot-eye co-ordination
Chest-eye or thigh-eye co-ordination
Head-eye co-ordination
Hand-eye co-ordination
What is Power?
The ability to undertake strength performances quickly. It can be written as a formula:
Power= Strength x speed
Some sports that require power:
Football, basketball, long jumpers, high jumpers etc
What is Reaction Time?
The time between a stimulus and a movement in response to it
In most sports, the signal for a reaction is a sight stimulus e.g a ball or a shuttlecock
What is Speed?
The rate at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance
