What occurs during a dislocation?
When a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position.
What can cause a dislocation?
Hard blows which causes one of the bones to be displaced
What is a fracture?
A broken or crunched bone
What types of fractures are there?
Stress fracture, compound fracturws, in closed and simple fracture
How can a fracture occur?
Occurs from a blow, severe twisting or wrenching of a joint
What occurs during a abrasion?
Friction off the skin against a rough surface. eg. A concrete playground
How can a abrasion occur?
Can happen from a fall or as a result of a tackle
What does RICE stand for?
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
What are the 5 injury preventions?
•Use of a warm up and cool down
•Checking of equipment and facilities
• Use of appropiate protective clothing
• Correct application and adherence to the rules
•Correct application of the principles of training
What occurs during a concussion?
Headaches, loss of coordination, confusion or slurred speech.
How can a consussion occur?
Normally caused by a blow to the head
What occurs during a torn cartilge?
Damaged elastic substance which lines adjoining bones. Cartilage absorbs the impact and reducing frictions during activity.
How can a torn cartilage occur?
Often due to wear and tear from long term overuse
How can a strain occur?
Twist,pull or tear of a muscle or tendon
How can a strain occur?
Sprinting or other explosive movements
