SMART Targets Flashcards
What are the SMART targets
S-Specific M-Measurable A-achievable R-Realistic T-Time bound
Specific
The target has to link to your ability, fitness and target an aspect of your performance you need to develop.
Measurable
This is a way of knowing if you have achieved your goal and to declare if you have or haven’t met your target.
This can be measured in time, distances and numbers.
Achievable
Goals should be within reach of the performer, challenging but attainable.
This means the performer won’t become demotivated if they don’t reach the goal and people are unlikely to chase a goal if it is out of reach.
Realistic
This should be possible for the performer to actually hit the goals set, if they work hard and progress well. This makes the performer aspire to reach a goal.
Time Bound
Goals should have limits.
If they don’t a performer will always be working towards a goal, with no real rush to get there.
This is valuable because a performer can assess whether or not they have hit their goal at a given point, or not.
