In your own words explain the functioning of
centre fired rounds?
On firing, pin strikes boxer type primer, crushes anvil against priming mixture in primer. Ignites composition and flashes through case hole into cart case. Propellant is ignited, resultant burning produces hot expanding gases which act on the base of projectile to drive forward through barrel, acting on case mouth forcing it outwards against breech to form a gas seal.
In your own words, explain the functioning of
12.7mm MP ammunition?
On impact the nose of each projectile is compressed and incendiary ignited. As the projectile passes through the target, pressure continues to build up within the nose
and the incendiary composition ignites the high explosive. Deflagration turns to detonation, producing blast and frag. The second incendiary charge then ignites and burns for approx. 1 second.
