ROCKET HAND FIRED PARACHUTE RED 9123100 delay from initiation of rocket propellant to ejection from tube
four second delay.
The delay comp is intended to enable
ejection of the star assembly from the
aluminium tube approx four seconds after
initiation of the rocket propellant.

Fins fold out at 6m
What primer is used in the Mk79 Mod 2 kit Mk31 Mod 0 Projector?
M42C1 primer with PA-101 Primer Mixture or M42G as an alternate
Functioning of Sig Smk Para No 1 Mk 5
Remove plastic lid.
Pull striker cord.
Releases striker claws.
Compresses striker spring.
Releases striker.
Striker travels down striker housing.
Impact percussion cap.
Ignites the pressed SFG90 gunpowder (delay of 2.7 - 4.5 seconds).
Primed cloth, ignites upper smoke pellets.
Minimum burn time of 40 seconds
SDDN No 1 Mk 5 purpose
The SDDN No 1 Mk 5 (Figure 1) is for survival use on sea or land, and is included in aircraft and personal survival packs.

Function of Signal Distress Day/Night Smoke and Flare
Three layers of flare comp (red) housed in
aluminium liner.
Percussion igniter assy (primer, cambric / celluloid
strip) – extends centrally through filling:
Igniter striker held in safe position by “safety fork” which
engages a groove in outer end of the striker.
A “D” ring is secured through a swivel link to the safety
fork.
D Ring and swivel located immediately beneath the end
cap.
Pull and twist D ring:
This action allows the safety fork to release the striker
from the safe detent which strikes the percussion cap.
Produces flash that ignites the primed cambric and
celluloid strip running centrally through the main filling.
Burning cambric / celluloid strip ignites flare or smoke
composition dependant on which end is activated.
SDDN No1 Mk5 description
Flare/(Smoke) Unit. The flare/(smoke) unit consists of three layers of flare composition (a smoke composition) housed in an aluminium liner. A percussion igniter extends through a central hole in the unit. The igniter’s striker is held in a safe position by a safety fork which engages a groove in the outer end of the striker; a D ring is secured through a swivel link to the safety fork. The D ring and swivel link are located immediately beneath the threaded end cap.
