What are breathing-related sleeping disorders
A disorder where people experience repeated sleep disruptions due too respiratory problems, which can result in insomnia or daytime sleepiness
What is the most common type of breathing-related sleep disorder and what is it
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea = repeated episodes of the obstruction of breathing due to a blockage of airflow in the upper airways
What is a common cause of Apnea (temporary cessation of breathing)
structural problems like an overly thick palate or enlarged tonsils or adenoids
Who is Sleep Apnea more common among
Its more common in younger men than women, but the rates increase and become equal as they approach age 50. Also more common among people who are obese or who drank alcohol before bed
Sleep Apnea is associated with increased risk of what?
Increased risk of High blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and even sudden death
If sleep disorders go undiagnosed, why does it effect the health care system
It is costly for the health care system because sleep disorders cause other problems that requires a lot of treatment (depression, cardiovascular diseases, etc)
What are Carcadian Rhythm Sleep-wake Disorders
The disruption of sleep caused by a mismatch between sleep schedules demands that disrupts sleep cycles

What are Parasomnias
A category of sleep disorders involving the occurrence of abnormal behaviours or psychological events during sleep
What is Nightmare Disorder
Nightmare disorder involves recurrent awakenings from sleep because of frightening dreams (nightmares)

When do nightmares occur and what is a positive aspect of this
