Chapter 2 Methods of Assessment Flashcards
What are the 3 types of interviews
Unstructured = the interviewer follows his/her own style of questioning rather than following a standard form
Semi-structured = the clinical follows a general outline of questions but can ask them in any order and can branch off in other directions
Structured Interview = the clinical follows a preset serious of questions in a certain order
What is a Mental Status Examination
a formal assessment where the clients appearance, mood, attention, awareness, memory, etc, are assessed
What intelligence test did Binet and Simon create to test a Childs mental age and compared it with their chronological age (real age)
The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale
What us an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and what is the formula?
An IQ is a measure of intelligence based on scores of a persons chronological age (CA) and the persons mental age (MA)
IQ = MA/CA x 100
What is a persons “Deviation IQ”
A persons IQ compared to the norm (mean)
What are the 2 types of Personality Tests
Self-report tests and Projective tests
What are “Objective Tests” and what are “Forced-Choice Formats”
tests that have limited responses to questions, forced choice formats are when the participants are to choose from certain options
What are projective tests
participants don’t have to pick between answers, they are usually presented with a stimuli and asked to describe it
What is the Rorschach inkblot test
a type of projective test where participants are asked to look at an inkblot, and then are asked to explain what they saw/noticed/what it reminded them of
this helps reveal unconscious aspects of a personality
What is the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
A test made by Henry Murray, where a series of cards that have an ambiguous scene are shown. Participants are asked to construct stories about the cards (what is happening in the scene, what the characters are feeling, etc.)
What is “Neuropsychological Assessment”
evaluates whether or not psychological problems reflect underlying neurological damage or brain defects
What was the first neuropsychological test
Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test
