What happened in the 1st passage of the transatlantic slave trade?
White Europeans and slave traders sailed from Europe to the West African coast with commodities such as rifles and Brandy. Upon arrival, these European goods were exchanged for enslaved Africans
What happened in the 2nd / Middle passage of the transatlantic slave trade?
Slaves were transported in horrifying conditions from West Africa to the Americas / Caribbean. Over there the slaves worked the fields to produce new world commodities such as rum, cotton, tobacco and sugar cane.
What happened in the 3rd / Final passage of the transatlantic slave trade?
The new world commodities and the profit would be transported from the Americas to Europe
Oveseer
A man paid by the master to force his slaves to work harder and supervise them
Field slave
A slave who worked outdoors on the plantation usually planting, tending and harvesting crops also expected to process harvest in the harvest season
house slave
A slave who worked in the Masters house (sometimes called the “big house”) doing housework and looking after children.
Drive
A slave persuaded to by the master the other slaves work harder in return for privileges from the master. This person is usually hated by other slaves
