irregularly shaped, plaques or nodules with raised borders. Scaly, ulcerated and easily bleed.

what is melanoma in situ
no invasion, localized to the epidermis. this should be excised with 5mm borders.
what is superficial spreading melanoma
most common type of melanoma. it spreads superficially across the top layers of skin before going inrto the deep layers. men commonly in the upper torso, while women get this in the legs. raised borders with brown lesion with pink, white grays or blues.
what is lentigo melanoma
this is commonly found in the elderly on chronic sun-damaged skin on the face, arms, uppertrunk. brown lesions with veryu irregular borders
amelanotic melanoma
uncommon, nonpigmented,
acral lentiginious melanoma
begins in situ. this is the ost common melanoma in africans and asians. usually found under the nails on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands flat irregular, dark brown to black lesions.
nodular melanoma
usually invasive at the time of diagnosis. this is the most aggressive and second most coimmon type. most commonly black but can be blue, brown, gray or red these lesions can arise from nevi or normal skin.
