When the environment when performing a skill is constantly changing.
Decisions needed due to changing environment.
What’s a Closed Skill?
When the environment when performing a skill is stable.
What’s a Self-paced Skill?
Pace/start is determined by yourself.
Can decide how fast they go.
What’s an Externally Paced skill?
Pace/start is determined by environment.
Opposition determines how fast they go.
What’s a Gross Skill?
Predominantly large muscle groups.
Movements don’t need accuracy/precision.
What’s a Fine Skill?
Predominantly small muscle groups.
Movements do need accuracy/precision.
What’s a Basic Skill?
Few decisions to be made.
Few cognitive processes needed.
Not many things need to be coordinated.
What’s a Complex Skill?
Lots of cognitive processes needed.
A number of things that need to be coordinated.
Gross Skill example?
Tackling in rugby.
Fine Skill example?
Throwing a dart.
Basic Skill example?
Forward roll in gymnastics.
Complex Skill example?
Flip in the air in gymnastics.
Open Skill example?
Passing in football.
Closed Skill example?
Penalty in football.
Self-paced Skill example?
Running and jumping in high jump.
